The “Documents” section of this website includes a copy of Peter Bruck’s Master’s paper as well as a number of other documents that formed the basis for much of the sustainability work done in Rohnert Park. The goal of this website is to provide users with information about writing, enacting, and implementing a local Green Building Ordinance. Bruck’s Master’s paper was written with the local building official and planning director in mind. The paper is designed as a “how to” manual for this purpose. While the legal sections of the paper address issues specific to implementation of a Green Building Ordinance in California, much of the information still applies outside of the State. The papers located in the “Documents” section of this webpage are either original works written by Peter Bruck or public documents retrieved from open sources. These documents are provided as aids in helping local government write their own ordinances and programs. Where possible, documents have been provided in Word format to allow for ease in editing. Visitors to this webpage are authorized to use Peter Bruck’s original work as long as the user gives credit to Peter Bruck and does not claim the work as his or her own. As staff was developing the Green Building Ordinance, it quickly became apparent that the nexus between green building and sustainable communities needed to be clearly established. To accomplish this, the City Council and staff held a “Sustainability Ordinance” workshop. The outcome of this process was the creation of Title 14 – Sustainability, in the City’s municipal code, which contains the Green Building Ordinance along with a new Energy Efficiency Ordinance requiring energy efficiency standards that exceed the State’s energy requirements. Rohnert Park Municipal Code Title 14 – Sustainability, will become the repository for all other sustainability initiatives developed by the City including universal design, solar access, water conservation, energy retrofits, transportation, and construction demolition and debris.
